EXPERT'S VISION
The Texas residential construction laws are labyrinthine, arcane, and heavily weighted in favor of the builders and contractors. The State of Texas does not believe in any actual consumer protection when it comes to the most expensive item most people will ever buy - their house.
Builder and remodeler contracts are, in many cases, unconscionable. Construction is performed by the unskilled and supervised by the uneducated. Building materials are inferior. Municipal inspectors are undereducated and thin on the ground. So, where does this leave the prospective home buyer or folks who need remodeling or repairs done to their homes? In peril.
It is always prudent for consumers to consult with a board-certified attorney prior to dealing with unlicensed, unscrupulous Texas contractors in order to protect themselves from the predatory practices that Texas laws allow.
